FollowICT Launches English Version, Appointing Doaa Abdel Moneim as Managing Editor

FollowICT, the leading digital economy platform in the Arab world, has officially announced the launch of its English version, following a six-month trial period. This initiative aims to highlight and convey the efforts being made in the digital economy sector in a language that resonates with Western audiences. It underscores the platform’s role in disseminating information related to technology and its contribution to supporting the economies of the Arab countries.

Additionally, FollowICT announces the appointment of prominent journalist Doaa Abdel Moneim as the Managing Editor of the English version. She will oversee the delivery of high-quality and diverse content aimed at a broad audience interested in news about the digital economy, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Abdel Moneim’s addition to FollowICT represents a significant enhancement for the platform, which was awarded the Arab Media Award as the Best Digital Economy Platform in the Arab World for 2022 by the Dubai Press Club. Her extensive experience and media insight will strengthen the platform’s position as a reference point in the fields of technology and digital economy both locally and regionally.

Abdel Moneim has vast experience in economic and technological journalism. She currently serves as the Head of the Business and Economic Affairs Desk at Ahram Online, the English voice of the well-know. Al-Ahram Establishment. Previously, she worked as a Senior Economic Editor for Business Monthly, the publication of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Cairo.

She also held the position of Deputy Head of Investigative Reporting at Al-Ahram Economic Magazine and worked as a Senior Economic Editor at Zawya in the UAE. Moreover, she contributed as a writer and economic analyst for Pan African Review in Rwanda, focusing on African affairs.

Abdel Moneim also played a prominent role as the Media and Communications Advisor for the African Development Bank during the preparations for the global climate summit COP27, hosted by Egypt in November 2022. She served as the Senior Economic Editor for both Business Today and Egypt Today magazines, and was the editor of the double-page spread In Focus of Daily News Egypt, which specializes in analyzing economic issues.

On this occasion, Abdel Moneim expressed her excitement about joining the English version of FollowICT, stating, “I am thrilled to join the FollowICT team, one of the leading platforms in the digital economy. I see this step as an opportunity to enhance specialized media content in technology and innovation and to provide a comprehensive and specialized perspective to the audience in the region.”

 

Regarding her vision for development after joining the platform, she added, “I aim to further develop the content provided by FollowICT, focusing on in-depth analysis and innovative news stories that reflect global and regional technological and economic developments. I will work to enhance collaboration with experts and various institutions to offer a more comprehensive and interactive perspective, highlighting stories of innovation and emerging technologies in the region and worldwide.”

Abdel Moneim has a long history of participation in international events, having been selected to join the International Monetary Fund Journalism Fellowship Program during the Spring Meetings in April 2023, and she has participated in numerous economic events at both continental and global levels.

Throughout her journalistic career, Abdel Moneim has received 12 awards and recognitions from 2010 to the present at both local and regional levels. Notably, her series of articles on Brexit was selected among the top four projects in the Dubai International Writing Program, sponsered by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, and she won first place in the Egyptian Journalism Competition for more than six years, in addition to being awarded the title of Best Economic Journalist in North Africa by the Jack Ma Foundation in 2023, as well as the prestigious Mostafa and Ali Amin Award and the Dr. Nawal Omar Award.
