Huawei, AIS Sign MOU To Advance Local Manufacturing Of Grid-Forming Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) In Egypt
Huawei and AIS have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the local manufacturing of Grid-Forming Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Egypt. This strategic partnership marks a key step in supporting Egypt’s national objectives to drive local manufacturing, accelerate the development of grid-connected energy storage, and contribute to the country’s sustainable energy future.
The MOU demonstrates the strong commitment of both Huawei and AIS to Egypt’s vision of becoming a regional hub driven by advanced energy technologies. By establishing local manufacturing capabilities, AIS and Huawei aim to strengthen supply chain resilience, create high-quality employment opportunities, and facilitate technology transfer within the country.
As Egypt continues to scale up its renewable energy generation, the importance of reliable grid-scale energy storage systems has grown significantly. BESS solutions play a vital role in improving the integration of renewable energy sources, ensuring grid stability, and enhancing the overall efficiency of the power system. This partnership directly aligns with national efforts to establish locally produced, grid-connected energy storage systems that can support the country’s growing energy demands.
“This partnership with AIS is a critical step in Huawei’s commitment to driving energy transformation in Egypt,” said Tony Bu, CEO of Huawei Egypt Digital Power, “Through this collaboration, we aim to deliver cutting-edge grid-forming energy storage technologies that enhance Egypt’s energy security, while creating local jobs and fostering technology transfer. We are excited to work alongside AIS to help Egypt lead the way in the clean energy transition.”
Karim Arafa, CEO of AIS, commented on the partnership: “Our collaboration with Huawei represents a pivotal milestone for AIS as we move beyond traditional boundaries to spearhead the localization of advanced energy technologies in Egypt. By integrating our local industrial expertise with Huawei’s global innovation, we are not just assembling systems; we are building a sustainable ecosystem that empowers the national grid with resilient, homegrown BESS solutions. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to making Egypt a competitive hub for renewable energy manufacturing, ensuring that the transition to green power is driven by local talent and high-tech infrastructure.”
The collaboration between AIS and Huawei will focus on exploring opportunities to jointly develop local manufacturing facilities in Egypt, localizing key components, and building a skilled workforce in the energy storage sector. Both parties will also collaborate on evaluating project opportunities and engaging with key stakeholders to facilitate the broader deployment of BESS technologies across the Egyptian power sector. By working together, AIS and Huawei are poised to make a lasting impact on the future of Egypt’s energy landscape and strengthen its position as a leader in renewable energy solutions.
