As the mobility industry accelerates its shift toward SDVs, AI and connected technologies, Valeo draws on its software engineering and AI expertise to advance automotive innovation. By combining Valeo’s international R&D capabilities with local engineering talent, Valeo Cairo’s team supports the development of technologies that address the evolving needs of automakers and the mobility sector.

Established in 2005 with just 25 engineers specializing in automotive software, Valeo Egypt has grown into the Group’s largest software excellence center and North Africa’s largest R&D center. Today, more than 3,000 engineers in Cairo support all Valeo business divisions, accounting for approximately 50% of the Group’s total software production. Their work spans advanced automotive technologies, including automated parking, driver assistance, connected vehicles, digital cockpits, electric powertrains and smart lighting.

This expertise was reflected in the Group’s participation in Paris Motor Show, one of six international stops on the team’s global tour this year. The Cairo-based team presented interactive demos showing how software and AI can expand vehicle capabilities, enabling vehicle personalization, enhancing safety, and introducing new functions throughout the car’s lifecycle.

The demos highlighted new potential for Software-Defined Vehicles, an area in which Valeo Egypt’s software engineering team plays a key role by developing technologies that enable vehicles to evolve beyond their original capabilities through software updates. Unlike traditional vehicles with largely fixed features, SDVs can support new functions and personalized experiences tailored to individual users.

Among the technologies showcased by Cairo’s team was Valeo’s high-definition headlamp, which can project animated images onto the road. The Cairo team developed software that uses AI to generate customized animations, demonstrating how intelligent software can expand automotive lighting beyond conventional illumination.

In addition, the team showed how software and AI can introduce new functions to existing vehicle systems. Rear lights, for example, can be configured to act as visual indicators of battery charge levels, allowing drivers to monitor charging status at a glance. The team also utilized AI to support the personalization of in-car display backgrounds while respecting vehicle safety requirements, illustrating how intelligent software can deliver more tailored driving experiences.

Beyond personalization, the Cairo team showed how software can improve energy management. Through bidirectional charging, vehicles can supply electricity back to the power grid when the necessary infrastructure and conditions are available, creating potential revenue opportunities for vehicle owners. Intelligent software can also help identify suitable periods for supplying energy while ensuring the vehicle retains sufficient charge for its next journey.

These applications reflect the growing role of software and AI in mobility innovation, supported by Valeo’s investment in local engineering capabilities. A further milestone in strengthening these capabilities is the recent launch of Valeo’s AI Development Center in Cairo, reinforcing Cairo team’s role in the Group’s global AI activities. The center brings together engineering expertise to advance AI applications and support the development of innovative solutions for Valeo’s operations worldwide.

The demos at Paris Motor Show offered a practical illustration of how Valeo Egypt’s software engineering and AI expertise contributes to the development of smart mobility technologies, increasing safety and helping shape the next generation of mobility solutions.
