Positive Hack Talks Comes To Cairo: Positive Technologies Hosts Cybersecurity Event for Professionals

Positive Technologies, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, will host an open event for cybersecurity professionals in Cairo on 26 February. This gathering will bring together industry experts, students, and aspiring researchers from both Russia and Egypt for an invaluable opportunity to exchange knowledge and expertise.

Egypt has emerged as a regional leader in digital technology. Between 2022 and 2024, the country saw a rise of 6.3 million internet users, surpassing 82 million total users. According to the 2023-2024 Global Cybersecurity Index report from the International Telecommunication Union, Egypt was among the 12 nations receiving the highest rating for cybersecurity. However, as digitalization rapidly expands, so does the threat from cybercriminals. Positive Technologies reports that Egypt ranks second in Africa for the number of cyberattacks, accounting for 13% of the continent’s total.

In 2024, Positive Technologies discovered over 100 listings on dark web forums offering stolen databases, many containing sensitive personal information of Egyptian citizens and organizations. The majority of data breaches involved individuals (40%), followed by e-commerce (22%), and the service and transportation sectors (10% each). One particularly concerning listing advertised the sale of personal data from 85 million Egyptian citizens. As a result, protecting corporate cybersecurity and securing client data have become top priorities for businesses and government officials alike.

Dmitry Serebryannikov, Chief Hacking Officer at Positive Technologies, emphasized the significance of the Cairo meetup, stating, “This event marks a major milestone in building a global community of cybersecurity professionals. Our mission is to share knowledge, improve security collectively, and address the rising cyberthreats worldwide.”

Ilya Leonov, Regional Director for MENA at Positive Technologies, added, “We are actively working in Egypt with local partners. Last year, we signed cooperation agreements with several cybersecurity service providers in Egypt and the broader MENA region. We’re committed to expanding our partner network and supporting the development of local talent through joint educational initiatives.”

At the Positive Hack Talks event in Cairo, experts will delve into crucial cybersecurity topics such as business logic vulnerabilities, client-side attacks, GraphQL security, and IoT exploitation. Speakers will include Ahmed Qaramany, Penetration Tester at DeepStrike, LLC, who will demonstrate a structured approach to penetration testing for GraphQL;

They will also include Fares Walid, Senior Security Consultant at Buguard, who will explore unconventional methods for detecting business logic flaws and analyzing JavaScript; along with Ksenia Naumova, Senior Malware Analyst at Positive Technologies, who will provide insights on identifying new threats with generic network rules. Additional discussions will cover topics like eBPF security, JVM fuzzing, and high-impact hacking techniques, providing attendees with valuable knowledge and networking opportunities.

Positive Technologies launched its global meetup series in 2024, beginning with an event in Bengaluru, India in October, followed by a meetup in Hanoi, Vietnam in November.
