Han Jong-Hee, the co-CEO of Samsung Electronics credited with transforming the company’s television business, passed away Tuesday at the age of 63.
Samsung confirmed that Han died in a hospital after being treated for a heart attack. Han, who was serving as a co-chief executive, had overseen the company’s consumer electronics and mobile devices divisions during his career.
Joining Samsung in 1988, Han spent most of his tenure in television-related roles, helping elevate the company to become the world’s leading TV manufacturer. In 2022, he was appointed co-vice chairman and CEO.
Samsung, one of the globe’s largest tech giants, has dual strengths in both components and finished consumer products. While the company has separate CEOs for its two key business divisions—consumer electronics and semiconductor chips—both divisions ultimately report to the third-generation corporate heir, chairman Lee Jae-yong.
With Han’s passing, Jun Young Hyun, the head of the semiconductor division, will now take over Han’s responsibilities as Samsung’s sole CEO, according to a regulatory filing.
