Chinese Company Unveils Revolutionary Solar-Powered Jacket

Anker Solix, a subsidiary of the Chinese tech giant Anker specializing in solar energy and energy storage, has unveiled an innovative smart jacket capable of charging phones and other devices using solar power.

The jacket, named “Cloak,” was showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. It features a design inspired by a raincoat, equipped with 24 sewn-in solar cells made from perovskite, a material known for its flexibility, allowing the cells to resemble fabric.

According to a report from CNET, this design enables users to charge electronic devices while on the go or relaxing outdoors. The charging mechanism involves a cable attached to the jacket with a 30-watt USB-C output, which can connect to a power bank or directly to the device needing a charge.

The jacket also features a blue light surrounding the edges of the hood, complemented by a smooth surface, lightweight feel, and a zipper with an illuminated strip. When worn, the solar cells appear as large patches, while smaller triangular cells on the right arm and shoulder facilitate elbow bending and free movement.

The primary solar panels extend in rectangular shapes across the left front and back, enhancing energy absorption efficiency.

While the solar jacket represents a promising concept in renewable energy technology, it remains in the prototype stage. Anker Solix has yet to announce any official plans for commercial production or a timeline for market release.
